What to Expect
Aka Frequently Asked Questions
We are SO excited you found us and are eager to help! Clay Scoliosis Clinic is small clinic with a big heart. Scoliosis Specific Therapy, sometimes just referred to as "schroth therapy" is a niche speciality within physical therapy. At the time of writing this there are less than 10 therapists in all of Missouri with advanced certification in the field. As with most medical specialities, due to high demand and low number of providers, there is often a wait to start care with us.

We appreciate your patience as we balance the needs of current clients with new inquiries.

Getting on the Schedule

What do you need from me to get started?
Recent Full-Spine, Standing X-rays

In order to provide accurate assessment of your curvature we need to see the actual image (not the report) of your most recent x-rays that show your whole spine in standing. We will do detailed measurements to determine the classification of your curve(s) which will then direct your exercises. For adults, imaging within the past 2 years is preferable. For kids/teens, 6-12 months is required.

Most medical facilities do not have the ability to share images directly with outside providers. The easiest way to acquire and share your images with us are to either request them to be put on a disc or to download/screenshot the images from your provider's mychart if applicable.

Please bring a copy of your images to your first appointment or arrange to send them ahead of time. We have software that allows us to pull images off of most discs.
Prescription for Physical Therapy

The state of Missouri allows physical therapist's to assess and treat for 30 days without a prescription. After 30 days a consult is required between the therapist and managing clinician.

The easiest way to satisfy this requirement is  still to request a prescription for physical therapy which can be written by a doctor, nurse practitioner, or chiropractor. We ask for this to be acquired before starting to prevent gaps in care at the 30 day mark.

Please have FAX prescription to

314-474-0118  or bring it in person to your first appointment.

When can I get an appointment?
As mentioned we often are working off of a waitlist. The most common time frame is a 2-3 month wait to be seen after we add you to the waitlist. Once we collect some information about your case we consider risk of progression, time constraints, and other factors in our triaging process.

Your wait could be more or less than 2-3 months depending on the specifics of your case, inquiry volume, and provider availability.

How do I move forward with scheduling?
Our first step is always to get your contact information and a basic history. You can start the ball rolling by filling out our inquiry form.

After we have have received that information our front desk coordinator (only 1, so please be patient) will reach out to get a few more details about your case and answer any questions you may have.

Due to high call volume the quickest way to share that information with us is via our secure app Spruce or by scheduling a brief phone consult.

Once we have all the information we can proceed with scheduling or adding you to the waitlist depending on the current availability.

Insurance & Cost Questions

Do you take insurance?

Clay Scoliosis Clinic LLC is considered out of network by private insurances and we do not bill them directly. However, we can provide you with a superbill that includes the codes you would need to submit a claim for reimbursement. Additionally, we can take FSA and HSA cards. Depending on your insurance plan/deductible, our prices may end up being less expensive!

Reimbursement is only applicable for private insurances and excludes Medicare. Individuals with Medicare may pursue our services as a  cash based client  if they choose.

If you have private insurance it will be your responsibility to check on your out-of-network benefits.

If you have any form of Medicare, please inform us so we can provide additional details.

How do I submit for reimbursement?

Most private insurances (not applicable for Medicare/Medicaid) have a place on their website where you can submit a claim for out-of-network reimbursement. You can also call the number on the back of your card for guidance. Feel free to refer to our claims resource page for help navigating reimbursement.

Medicaid and most Medicare Plans do not allow their benefits to be used with out-of-network providers with the exception of some Medicare Advantage plans.
What is the cost of your services?

We strive to be upfront and consistent with the local market for our specialty physical therapy prices.  We provide a good faith estimate of the costs you may expect before proceeding with care.
